Sometimes, the best way to understand something is strip it down to its barest elements.

That’s the idea behind Discover Roxbuy’s Black & White Party that, as the name suggests, takes all color from the venue. Attire, décor, and even food are almost entirely devoid of color. All of this desaturation is done with a purpose—to remind revelers of the colors artists add to our everyday lives.

The party is to be held on Thursday, March 29 at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here. Black and white artwork will be sold, the proceeds of which will benefit the 2011 Roxbury Open Studios—an annual event in which artists open their work for the public to view and purchase.

Discover Roxbury aims to build community pride, overcome damaging stereotypes, and foster participation in the cultural and historic life of the community. In summation—it’s a great organization that deserves your support.

So don your best black and white garb and celebrate the Roxbury artists that bring color and art to the streets of Boston.
